ART SAVES ME: COVID-19 Relief: Grants for King County Artists / Funding

Deadline
March 30, 2020

Organization Name: ONE REEL

Organization Location: Seattle, WA

Type: Funding

Fee: FREE

Discipline:

One Reel is proud to announce five “quick turn” grant opportunities, up to $1,000 per, for artists impacted by COVID-19 in King County.

The application process is open to the public and can be completed online. While all applications will be reviewed, we offer a 10 question “yes or no” questionnaire that will help to determine the eligibility of artists. The key areas of eligibility this grant focuses on are King County-
based artists working in visual arts, dance, literature, film, and performance.

Because these grants are intended to help benefit artists who are faced with the challenges surrounding the COVID-19 and their work is to be shared with the public through safe-viewing opportunities, the timeline for the initial grants is aggressive. All applications must be received by Monday, 3/30/20, in order to be reviewed by the voluntary decision committee, enabling the grant award announcements to be made on Monday, 4/6/20, with checks sent to artists the following day.

“No one can predict what long-term effects this pandemic will have on the local arts community and the hundreds of organizations that support Seattle artists,” says Marty Griswold, Executive Director of One Reel. “That said, we have spent the past week putting our heads together, to see how One Reel might provide some immediate solace and support to local artists who have been impacted during this difficult time. And while our resources are limited, we decided we had to do what we could to lend financial support through our Art Saves Me program.”

The grants awards start at $500 and go up to $1,000 based on the recommendations of the independent advisory committee. While the artists are invited to join us in a safe, collaborative art “show” in May, to share the fruits of their labor created during the STAY HOME, STAY HEALTHY order from Governor Inslee, the artists are free to use the funds on any personal or professional expenses they choose, including food, supplies, shelter, health services, etc. Should any artist be unable to complete a work of art during this time, due to illness associated with the COVID- 19 virus, they will not be penalized and receive the full grant award.
