Artist in Residency at the River District – Danville, VA
Vantage Art Flats is now accepting applications for temporary residency in the 500 block of Main Street in downtown Danville, VA. This studio residency located in the heart of downtown will give the selected artist an opportunity to fully immerse themselves in a creative environment. It will allow the artist a period of time to live and work away from the stresses of everyday life. The brand new flat is a one – bedroom, ground level space with an adjacent glass enclosed studio and gallery.

The ideal candidate is a visual artist comfortable working independently with an occasional audience. In addition, the artist should be eager to educate as a weekly rotation in coordination with the Arts Department in the public school setting is required .We have opportunities for emerging and mid-career, national and international visual artists.
Vantage Art Flats respectfully requests that all artists applying for the Artist in Residency at the River District be aware that our facilities are family friendly establishments, visited by all ages, genders, religions, et cetera, and it is for this reason we at Vantage Art Flats call for only appropriately-groomed expressions of art.

Expectations:
While artists are responsible for their own travel, materials, meals, and personal incidentals, Vantage Art Flats will provide housing and studio space at no cost.

Artists will receive a monthly stipend of $3,000.00

Artists will receive a thorough studio orientation and are expected to work independently for the majority of the residence. A minimum of 20 hours per week must be spent on the premises producing your work.

Artists will maintain a weekly presence in coordination with the local public school system.

Artists will be responsible for maintaining professionalism throughout the residency and will be held responsible. A temporary residency lease will be signed outlining the terms.

Each Saturday, the artist will be expected to work “hands-on” in the studio which will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The artist must be willing to engage and/or educate visitors popping in to chat, observe the work being created, and browse the exhibits.
