Center Art LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Space Needle LLC has partnered with Chihuly Studio to operate Chihuly Garden and Glass on the grounds of Seattle Center next to the Space Needle.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director supports Center Art’s mission, vision and values by exhibiting the following behaviors, standards and accountabilities:

General Responsibilities

The Assistant Director assists the Executive Director in leadership, direction, management and supervision of the organization’s operations.
Works closely and leads all other departments to maintain brand quality throughout the organization
Incorporates the mission of Chihuly Garden and Glass in all decision making with Team Members, operations and through the guest experience
Develops relationships in the art, glass, tourism, Seattle center campus and business community
Represents Chihuly Garden and Glass as the spokesperson in the absence of the Executive Director
Works closely with Chihuly studio to ensure brand of CGG and Chihuly is evident in all aspects of the business.
Shares, with the Director, responsibility for designing a work environment and culture of guest first service, operational efficiency and innovation.
Responsible for the development of general content and art related content of the exhibition.
Incorporates new content when appropriate for exhibition. Developing talking points, training, and monitoring accuracy and delivery
Works closely with security and Exhibition Manager to ensure the exhibition artwork is safe and secure.
Proactively presents and implements new ideas to improve on site operations and guest experience.
Participates in strategic planning and annual budgeting for the Exhibition.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

Guest Experience

Works with Exhibition Manger to oversee all aspects of guest experience: tours, gallery talks, group tours, education station, live glassblowing demonstrations
Ensure accuracy of all content delivered to guests
Works with the team to develop new content if necessary
Provide opportunities for guests to learn about the exhibition
Shares in the management of all aspects of the Mobile Hot Shop, equipment, team, experience
Shares in the management of all aspects of the Flameworking studio, equipment, team, experience
Presents all content through the DEI lens
Team

Supports Team Member culture on site
Educates Team about Dale Chihuly’s brand and legacy
Supports the Team Member onboarding, transform moments and ensures training materials align with operational practice
Works collaboratively with HR to ensure handbook aligns with current policies and procedures
Develops programming to support Team morale and training
Upholds standards for team Members
Artwork

Ensures safety of artwork and quality of artwork experience
Lisason to the studio for Annual Reporting
Community Partners

Adheres to Public Benefit obligations
Builds relationships with arts partners and community
Works with Exhibition Manager to maintain and improve Community Enrichment Program for 10,000 tickets
Reports on and tracks all partnership giving
Chihuly Studio Liaison

Builds and maintains a relationship with Chihuly Studio
Adheres to contractual agreements
Manages annual committee meetings
Supports CGG team in communication and reporting to Chihuly Studio
Capital/Special Projects

Assists Executive Director and Exhibition Manager with the management of capital projects
Annual Budgeting

Works with the Executive Director to develop labor and operational budget as well as capital budgets
Monitors monthly budgets
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other special projects and duties as assigned.
This position is expected to be on site at least 50% of work time.
Ability to walk or stand for an entire shift
Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

BA or MA in Museum Studies or a degree that, combined with experience, provides the equivalent.
Accumulation of 10 + years of progressively responsible exhibitions experience
A depth of experience in art gallery, museum, and/or similar environment; familiarity with contemporary visual arts and exhibition management.
Demonstrated financial management skills.
A record of excellence in educational and public programming
Understand and respect artistic aesthetic and work with artists to honor this aesthetic
Strong management skills, including ability to train, coach and motivate team members to meet sales and customer satisfaction goals.
The ability to prioritize, delegate and follow-up on all exhibition related issues including customer service, team member motivation, safety, policies and procedures.
Proven leadership skills and ability to manage all levels of staff.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with customers, associates, and management team.
Ability to organize and prioritize a multiple of tasks
Prefer art background and/or education.
