EXHIBIT

The Wing Luke Museum is planning an exhibition of art by Taiwanese and Chinese immigrant artists, that will be on display in our central Community Portrait Gallery from December 4, 2020 through November 7, 2021. The show will focus on artists whose work incorporates both traditional Chinese painting and contemporary American influences into new forms, techniques, and media. The exhibit will highlight connections between the artists’ immigrant journeys and their fusion of styles and sensibilities.

CALL FOR ARTISTS

We are currently accepting submissions from artists of Taiwanese and/or Chinese descent, of any generation, based in Washington State. Selected artists will be featured in a digital art show – slide show or interactive touchscreen – in the gallery. In addition, a limited number of artists will be invited to show their original works on the gallery walls.

We are looking for 2D work (painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, etc.) or short video (3 minutes maximum) that relates to, reflects, or is inspired by your personal or family immigration story and/or or your Taiwanese/Chinese heritage. Please note that artwork will be displayed on a monitor screen at approximately 16”x24”.

FEES AND PAYMENTS

There is no application fee for this project. We are unable to offer payment to participating artists for showing their work in the media component. Artists who are invited to exhibit their original work in the gallery will receive an honorarium. All selected artists will be eligible to participate in public programs accompanying the exhibit (workshops, artist talks, etc.); additional payment is available for participation in programming.

TIMELINE

Submissions will be accepted through 11:59 pm on May 31st, 2020.

Artists will be notified of the jury’s decisions by June 19, 2020.

The exhibit will open in December 2020; programming will run through October 2021.
