WEST RUTLAND, VT- The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center seeks artists to design a marble sculpture honoring Tom Fagan (1931-2008) and the Rutland Halloween Parade. The marble memorial will become part of the Rutland Sculpture Trail, a collection of public sculpture planned for completion and placement in this historic Vermont city.

From the beginning of the Annual Rutland Halloween Parade in 1959, Tom Fagan was its greatest champion. Fagan was a journalist and book editor in Rutland and had friends in the comic book industry, who traveled to Vermont to attend the parades. The parade became part of storylines in nearly two dozen nationally distributed comic books and was cancelled for the first time in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The larger-than-life sculpture will represent the spirit of the Hallowe’en parade from the 1960’s through the present. The selected artist will provide a scale clay maquette to be reproduced in plaster. The finished sculpture will be carved in marble at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center.

To apply for this opportunity, please send your resumé/CV, proposal, and up to 10 digital images of your work to info@carvingstudio.org or The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center, P.O. Box 495, West Rutland, VT 05777. Application deadline is January 8, 2021.
