Call for Outdoor Community Theater Performances / Calls & Submissions

Deadline
December 30, 2019

Organization Name: Shoreline Public Art

Organization Location: Shoreline, WA

Type: Calls & Submissions

Fee: Free

Discipline:

The City of Shoreline seeks community theater groups for a series of 6 – 9 performances in August 2020 (beginning the second weekend; usually Thursday – Saturday nights), at Shoreline City Hall in Shoreline WA, 17500 Midvale Ave N., as part of the city’s Celebrate Shoreline Festival. The venue is situated on the east side plaza & courtyard where a sloping lawn provides ample space for audiences. The lobby and interior may be available in case of rain.

Content is open, in keeping with an all ages venue. Optimal cast size is 3 – 8. We are especially interested in work by emerging playwrights as well as dramatic performance traditions from other cultures (e.g., Butoh, Kabuki, etc.). The city will award a $5,000 contract to the selected group in addition to providing support in terms of coordination, promotion, and printing. Performances can be ticketed; we suggest donation or low-cost admission. Previous experience in presenting a series of performances is required.

Submissions are reviewed by a jury panel consisting of the city’s Public Art Coordinator, the Shoreline – Lake Forest Park Arts Council staff, and local arts supporters.

There is no fee to apply. Interested groups should submit the following materials to artentry@shorelinewa.gov by Dec. 30, 2019:

•Proposal, 2-3 pages, including tentative plays (groups must eventually secure rights if selected), number of performances, resources in hand (sound & light; costumes; actors) and resources needed

•A tentative budget, ideally including additional financial resources such as grants (4Culture’s Open 4Culture program is especially recommended)

•Portfolio of past works (up to six images of max. 3 MB; list of previous performances, venues, estimated audiences).
