Connecting Perspectives is a collaborative, interdisciplinary series being produced and presented by the Social Distancing Festival and the Consulate General of Canada in New York. Drawing inspiration from the theme “Art Today,” 26 artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour (13 artists in Canada and 13 artists in the United States) will be selected, paired up and tasked with creating new, collaborative works of art for presentation on the Social Distancing Festival website.

Like so much else, the art world has been shaken by the COVID-19 pandemic. Artists and creatives, particularly artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, have been severely impacted by the turbulence and uncertainty of the crisis.

We are looking for visual artists, choreographers, poets, composer/musicians, and spoken word artists who are enthusiastic about collaborating on new work that will be presented online. Each artist will receive a fee of $1000 USD, as well as $200 USD for expenses. These artists must have a minimum of 2 years professional experience, and be available to work on this project between February – end of April 2021.

Connecting Perspectives is inspired by the Social Distancing Festival’s Long Distance Art series, which saw artists from around the world coming together to work quickly and create new interdisciplinary work. Click here to check it out.

The deadline for submissions is January 22, 2021, or once we have reached 400 submissions in total. Given that we are seeking to include participants from across Canada and the United States, we may need to stop accepting applications from certain areas if we have received a large amount of submissions.
