Constructed Visions III is a national juried exhibition seeking artisans (object makers) of 3D or 2D contemporary fine craft or sculpture that highlight process-driven methods. The artistic product may be functional or nonfunctional, but the process, technique, and material must align with the intent or content of the piece. The St. Louis Artists’ Guild seeks artwork in wood, metal, paper, fiber, glass, clay, jewelry, encaustics, and printmaking as well as non-traditional materials.

Juror: Casey Whittier

Casey Whittier received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder. Her work is often born from one of the following experiences: an indescribable feeling of excitement; a nagging contradiction of desire; a need to share something that she cannot yet explain; an obsession; a question or series of questions; a desire to respond to or reflect on a thought, feeling, or event; recognition of something poignant or absurd; misunderstandings.

Utilizing a variety of forming methods in glass and clay, Whittier reinterprets objects from her daily experience, unites the landscapes of her reality with the landscapes of daydreams, exploits the visceral qualities of the materials, and ponders the power of shared experience. The physical impressions that come through rolling, tearing, squishing, dipping, pushing, pinching, molding, casting, and scratching become representations of touch, of thought, of time spent.

Whittier is an advocate for community engagement through the arts. She teaches ceramics social practice at the Kansas City Art Institute. Whittier works from her home studio and serves as Vice President for Artaxis.org. Her work can be found at www.caseywhittier.com and www.palmpetals.com.
