Organization Name: Centrum

Organization Location: Port Townsend, WA

Type: Residencies

Fee: Free

Discipline:

The Emerging Artist Residency supports artists residing in the Northwest region who are at pivotal and early stages of their professional careers. Artists may be recent graduates, have a limited exhibition history, or come from a non-traditional path in the arts.

Since 1980, the Centrum Artists-In-Residence program has welcomed hundreds of artists and creative thinkers to immerse themselves in the historic and beautiful Fort Worden and its sweeping views of the Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges, miles of beach and forest trails, and peppering of World War I–era batteries and bunkers. The land on which it sits and the waters that it borders are the traditional territory of the S’Klallam and Chemakum people. We strive to honor their thriving culture and sustain their homelands.

Six artists will be selected by a panel of jurors to be in residence between October 1-31. Selected artists are provided with housing, studio space and a $1,500 stipend, while they spend the month creating work in community with one another. Throughout the residency, artists benefit from studio visits with arts professionals, opportunities to connect with local artists, and participation in a closing open studio event. Through access to time, space, and community, artists have a rare occasion to focus on ideas, expand their networks, and build relationships that continue beyond the residency.
