Discipline:

Stonington Gallery seeks a Creative Gallery Assistant with a Marketing/Sales Focus to join our small team. Must be an outgoing and professional team player with superb writing and communication skills and be eager to make art sales. We seek a self-starter, not only adept at graphic design, website maintenance, and social media outreach, but one comfortable working collaboratively to support all the ins and outs it takes to run a successful art gallery. This position helms the gallery’s marketing and promotion: writing and designing attractive and educational emails to clients and press outlets; promoting and up-keeping social media accounts with engaging content; updating and improving the gallery’s website and online inventory; producing graphics for exhibit promotion and print/web advertising. Video production to promote exhibits and artists is an increasingly key segment of this position.

This is a part-time position with room to grow. Please note that the gallery is open to the public, and the position requires being in the gallery during regular business hours. While we appreciate out-of-network job seekers may be interested in our position, we will only be able to consider you if you live locally and can commute to our location daily.

The ideal candidate will possess:

-Superior writing, editing and communication skills.
-Prior experience in retail and sales, and enthusiasm about interacting with the public to educate, represent and sell artwork.
-Familiarity and savvy with social media platforms and current creative engagement strategies.
-A background in graphic design, and familiarity with designing for web and print projects.
-Comfort working with WordPress websites.
-Demonstrated experience with producing and editing video for promotional projects.
-Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, hit deadlines, and be able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Additional desired skills:

-Knowledge about or lived experience within the cultures of the Northwest Coast Indigenous peoples, and familiarity with contemporary art and artists in the field.
-Prior experience in art galleries or museums, and knowledge of gallery best practices.
-Comfort with basic photo editing.

To apply:

Please email your resume, cover letter, and a selection of applicable materials (graphic design; writing samples; and video work, if available).
