The North Seattle College Art Gallery (Seattle, WA) seeks a dynamic and flexible art professional for the position of Gallery Assistant for the North Seattle Art Gallery. We are seeking an assistant who can commit for at least one year. This position is part-time and averages 10 hours per week for an 11 week quarter. Position is for Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters, and does not include Summer. Stipend is $2,000 per quarter.

The North Seattle Art Gallery offers the college community and the general public a dynamic schedule of engaging and thought-provoking exhibitions, all of them enriched by public programs. The North Seattle College Art Gallery presents six group exhibitions annually that highlight a wide array of themes and include work by a variety of levels of artists.

The Art Gallery Assistant position supports the Art Gallery Coordinator position and limited operations of the North Seattle College Art Gallery. Our mission is to foster the appreciation of the visual arts on the North Seattle College campus. We actively engage the college community through dynamic learning opportunities that directly demonstrate cultural and artistic diversity. Through exhibitions based around specific themes the gallery is invested in showcasing art that questions concept, is inclusive to a variety of viewpoints, and excels visually.

Qualifications:

1. Associate of Arts or Two Years Equivalent Experience in Art or Relevant Field
2. Previous experience organizing community arts events
3. Demonstrated experience in exhibit design and preparation
4. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications & the Adobe Suite
6. Experience with professional design and layout applications
7. Experience working in a community college setting.

Art Gallery Coordinator Assistant Position Responsibilities include:

1. Collaborate with the Art Gallery Coordinator, Art Faculty and Art Group in the development of art gallery shows that compliment academic coursework and interest while maintaining a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
2. Provide assistance in mounting, lighting, and striking exhibitions.
3. Collaborate with Gallery Coordinator on exhibition design, programming, and events related to each exhibition: visiting artist lectures (4 per year through the gallery & 3 per year through the department), workshops (3 per year)
4. Provide hosting duties for participating artists and visitors at opening receptions for each show
5. Oversee the Art Gallery facilities as needed
6. Prepare and edit text panels and labels for shows
7. Work with gallery work-study students to prepare posters for shows and related events
8. Prepare and edit press releases
9. Assist with the organization and jurying specific art shows
10. Assist in maintaining and updating the Art Gallery website
11. Update and maintain social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram (adding related articles, links to the artists’ websites, related news and photos)
12. Document each show, edit photos, send to artists, and update FB albums.
13. Assist with administrative duties and planning as needed
14. Provide backup coverage for gallery work-study student monitors

Skills

2. Ability to work quickly and efficiently
3. Ability to maintain productivity in fast paced environment
4. Self-starter that can work individually as well as part of a team
5. Organized, with excellent time management
6. Keen attention to detail

Weekly Hours:

1. Roughly 10 hours per week for each 11-week quarter
2. Some occasional evening hours
3. Some set up and take down of exhibitions over quarter breaks
4. No retirement or health benefits.

Rate of Pay: Stipend of $2000.00 each quarter for Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. (Does not include Summer quarter.)
