Inscape is a diverse community of artists located in the International District neighborhood of Seattle. Now in its third year, the artist-in-residency program provides much-needed studio and project space for artists to create their own work within the setting of the historic, former immigration building.

For the 2021-2022 residency cycle, three residencies will be awarded to artists or artist groups who submit thoughtful, compelling, and relevant applications that consist of high-quality work. All mediums are welcome. Prior awardees have included artists engaged in visual art, dance, writing and social practice.

The selection committee puts a high value on applications that demonstrate engagement with the Inscape artist community, building history and/or the CID neighborhood. Persons of color, women, and traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, artists culminated their residency with an exhibition that often occurred during the widely-attended Inscape Open Studios. Depending on health guidelines, artists-in-residents will be given opportunities for virtual exposure, including a web exhibition, virtual artist talk and social media support.

The residency committee has been working to safely offer this program, following the guidelines and mandates of the State of Washington. Interested artists should be aware that residency dates and other parameters might change, due to the uncertain conditions of public health.
