Organization Name: Recology King County Artists In Residence Program

Organization Location: Seattle, WA

Type: Residencies

Fee: Free

Discipline:

The Artist in Residence Program at Recology King County is a unique opportunity for King County artists. The five-month residency includes access to discarded materials at Recology’s recycling facility in South Seattle, Recology Stores, a monthly stipend, and access to a studio space. During their residencies, artists speak to school classes and adult tour groups about the experience of working with recycled materials. At the conclusion of the residency, Recology King County hosts a public exhibition and reception for the artists, featuring work made during the residency. Artists contribute some artwork to the program’s permanent collection and these pieces continue to be shown in off-site exhibitions. Modeled after the Artist in Residence Program at Recology San Francisco, Recology King County aims to encourage people to conserve natural resources and promote new ways of thinking about art and the environment, by supporting artists who work with recycled materials.

The 2020 program runs from April 1 – August 31, with a final exhibition in September. Applications are now being accepted until January 17, 2020. Artists will be interviewed and selected in February. Artists are strongly encouraged to tour Recology’s recycling facility during the application process.
