Live Rent-Free for 5 Months – Community Focused Art Residency in Seattle / Residencies

Deadline
December 1, 2020

Organization Name: OpenDoor Coliving

Organization Location: Seattle, WA

Type: Housing | Residencies

Fee: Free

Discipline:

The OpenDoor Coliving Artist-in-Residence program is a social experiment in connection, community, and creating belonging. We’re searching for a diverse group of 12 artists, creatives, and change-makers from Seattle and beyond to come together to lean into a question:

How can you turn a 78-bedroom apartment building into a vibrant home with a huge extended family during one of the most turbulent times in recent history?

Resident artists will be the first members of Freya — a new 78-person coliving community in NW Seattle. They will receive 5 months of rent-free living to focus on their personal creative practice while exploring what it means to create home.

OpenDoor Coliving will help resident artists build an online audience through social storytelling. We’ll help artists capture photos/videos of their work and gain exposure through social media sharing, sharing on OpenDoor newsletters, and featuring artists on the OpenDoor website.

Every month each artist receives dedicated coaching from the in-cohort art administrator, artist-only events, and spontaneous collaboration with other artists.

We’re creating a diverse cohort of artists – all creative practices and experience levels are eligible to apply. However, we are limited on studio space and large or industrial art may be hard to accommodate.
