The next Washington State Poet Laureate will serve the state from 2023-2025, connecting Washingtonians to the power of poetry. The poet laureate builds awareness and appreciation of poetry through public readings, workshops, lectures, and presentations. Laureates perform this work in culturally and geographically diverse communities throughout the state. Past laureates report that they grew in unique and significant ways as artists, advanced their careers, and appreciated the opportunity to meet new people and learn about the entire state.

NEW: The honorarium is $40,000 per year for the 2-year term, plus travel expenses.

Nominations are due Friday, December 2 by 5PM. Self-nominations are allowed and encouraged.

Upcoming Info Sessions
ArtsWA and Humanities Washington will host two information sessions about the nomination process. Both sessions are free to attend and will be recorded for future viewing.

• Info session #2 | Monday, Nov 7, 2022 | 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

To be eligible for the Washington State Poet Laureate, a nominee must have significantly contributed to the poetic legacy of Washington State and show demonstrable commitment to serving as an ambassador for poetry to audiences throughout Washington State, be a current Washington State resident and reside primarily in Washington State.
