Mauser EcoHouse Artist Residency provides artists with a beautiful, tranquil and inspirational space where they can immerse themselves in their individual projects. The program focuses on furnishing artists with luxury accommodations, ample work space and serene surroundings so that individual or group projects can be worked on, and creativity can flourish. Artists can expect a lush jungle setting on our 1.5 acres of land. Many amazing species of insects, butterflies, birds, monkeys and sloths call this land home or pass through from time to time. During your stay you will learn about the properties sustainable features, and local flora and fauna by our on-site artist, vegetarian chef and Residency Director, Heather. Here, artists are encouraged to be self-directed and pursue their personal and creative objectives.

LOCATION:

Mauser EcoHouse Artist Residency is located in the Central Pacific Coastal area of Costa Rica, a 2 hour drive from San Jose in Esterillos, Este and 13 km (8 miles) west of Parrita.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Mauser EcoHouse Artist Residency provides artists with a beautiful, tranquil and inspirational space where they can immerse themselves in their individual projects. Here, artists are encouraged to be self-directed and pursue their personal, creative objectives. The program focuses on furnishing artists with luxury accommodations, ample work space and serene surroundings so that individual or group projects can be worked on, and creativity can flourish.

At the Mauser EcoHouse artists can expect a lush jungle setting on our 1.5 acres of land. The property contains numerous indigenous fruit trees, edible plants, herbs and a working greenhouse. Two banana circle composts and five swales are also on the site. Your stay will include a tour of the property’s sustainable features, including medicinal and tropical plants, by our on-site artist and Foundation Director, Heather. We welcome and respect artists of all cultures, backgrounds and lifestyles.

DISCIPLINES:

We welcome mixed media and installation artists, writers, photographers, jewelry designers, musicians, dancers, editors, painters, and sculptors.
We encourage artists with a concentration in other fields to apply, as acceptance into the program will be judged on an individual basis.

RESIDENCY INCLUDES:

Free Wifi, weekly maid service, fully equipped community kitchen, large studio spaces, daily continental breakfast, prepared vegetarian meal Monday thru Friday, washing machine for personal laundry. Day trips to local attractions can be arranged for additional cost.

STUDIO SPACES:

  • Main Studio 20’x22’ Up to 4 spaces available with natural light and large wooden doors with view to backyard gardens
  • 13’x13’ studio facing jungle Up to 3 artist spaces available
  • 2 open air studios on covered veranda overlooking jungle
  • Writer’s private room/studio with desk and chair facing our butterfly garden…matrimonial bed & attached bathroom

WORK EQUIPMENT:

 All types of power tools, drills, electric saws and a Dremel, hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, machetes

ACCOMMODATIONS:

  • 2 private rooms, each with attached bathroom & matrimonial bed
  • 1 communal bedroom with attached bathroom & Jacuzzi, 2 bunk beds and 1 matrimonial bed
  • All beds made by local artisan from wood repurposed from fallen trees
