We invite you to contribute to our upcoming exhibit, My Ancestors Taught Me, at The Confluence: Art in Twisp. The show will open on March 12, 2022, and run through April 23, 2022.

My Ancestors Taught Me is an exhibit about origin stories. The origin story in this case is our ancestry. We all have an origin story that is reflected in our art. Sometimes it is very clear what that influence is and sometimes it is only a hint. It comes through in the materials we use, the color combinations, the size, the techniques, and the stories represented. In My Ancestors Taught Me, we are challenging you to look back. To take time to create from the lens of your history, your people, your ancestors.

Be creative in the expression, it isn’t necessarily meant to be a literal interpretation but inspired and filtered through who you are as an artist today while still honoring and shining a light on your history.

Show where YOUR ancestry originates with your submission. The representation can be an element, an influence, or an actual form of art that comes from your family, tribe, community, or country.

We create from a place that isn’t often shared. Tell us what your ancestors taught you in your submissions and artist statement, which will be hung next to your work during the exhibit.

Number of pieces to submit: up to 3.

Each piece must be:
– Your own original work.
– Available for sale.
– Created in the last three years.
– Never previously shown at The Confluence.
– Any size.
– Any medium.
– Ready for hanging with appropriate hardware/wire secured to work. Works without hanging hardware will not be hung.

Please note: the curator(s) have the right to refuse work, even after work is delivered to the gallery, if it does not contribute to the direction, cohesiveness, or available space of the show. We are looking for high-quality execution and thoughtful content that contribute to the vision of the show as stated above.

– Email Intent to Submit and digital samples of work or website to roxanne@roxtography.com.

– Email high-quality JPGs (300 dpi) of accepted work or work in progress to roxanne@roxtography.com for promotional materials.

The Confluence is a non-profit gallery. All shipping costs to and from the gallery of unsold works are each artist’s responsibility. See The Confluence Shipping Procedures form for details here.

Please email roxanne@roxtography.com or call The Confluence at (509) 997-2787 if you have any questions about the show or the requirements. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
