Synopsis: Art Room announces a call for entry for its third annual juried exhibition, Now | Contemporary 2021. This exhibition invites accomplished curator, Lauren Cross to act as the juror, who will select a compelling group of artworks to be exhibited at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. All media—including oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawings, sculpture in any medium, collage, printmaking, photography—will be considered.

2021 Juror Information: Lauren Cross is an interdisciplinary artist/filmmaker, curator, and scholar whose work has been screened and exhibited across the country. Cross earned her BA (2006′) in Art, Design, and Media from Richmond, the American International University in London, England, and her MFA (2010′) in Visual Arts from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Women’s Studies with a concentration in Multicultural Studies at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX.

Cross’ feature film, The Skin Quilt Project, was an official selection for the 2010 International Black Women’s Film Festival in Berkeley, CA and screened at various museums, universities/colleges, and community organizations across the country. She is a passionate advocate for diversity in the arts and has written and contributed research in fields of women’s studies, visual studies, and multicultural studies. In 2013, Cross was among three Fort Worth artists selected for the 2013 Fort Worth Weekly Visionary Awards.

Eligibility: Open to multigenerational makers. All media—including oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawings, sculpture in any medium, collage, printmaking, photography—will be considered. Work must be no more than 60 inches in any direction, including the framing or mounting. The size given for works should be the framed size. Height must be given before width regardless of whether the work is a vertical or horizontal piece. The artwork may represent any subject matter. Accepted work must be suitably framed and ready for hanging. Works on paper must be framed under plexiglass or glass—plexiglass is preferred. Please respect these eligibility requirements.

● Submission Deadline: June 17, 2021
● Notification of Acceptance: June 28, 2021
● Artwork Due to Art Room/FWCAC: July 20, 2021
● Exhibition Dates: July 23 – September 4, 2021
● Artwork Return: Week of September 6, 2021

Requirements: Please submit images with the following specifications:
● 72 ppi
● 800 pixels on the longest side
● No borders around the image
● JPEG file format

Label your image files with your last name and the title of the artwork—if it is a long title, you may use a keyword or abbreviation (i.e., Baker_Homeplace.tif).

Please include the following with your entry: Title, Medium, Scale (h x w inches), Date, Price
