The UACC (uacc.art) and Seattle’s Office of Arts and Culture (ARTS) are collaborating to recruit artists to participate in a new, paid opportunity to perform at Seattle Center. Performances will be scheduled between October 2021 and September 2022. Selected participants will receive between $2,000 and $6,000 in funding based on the artist/group size.
The performance series is intended to support our vibrant arts community by introducing artists from many different disciplines to the community-at-large, further activating Seattle Center and broadening the arts and cultural experiences in the Uptown Arts District. The program emphasizes an equity and social justice lens in its selection of artists and diversity of experiences for the public.
This year will be a pilot effort constrained by Covid 19 restrictions. In this pilot year, we are limited to performances on the Seattle Center campus and are graciously supported by Seattle Center Productions. We are broadly defining “performance” to include art demonstrations that might engage participants in creating art as well as traditional viewing entertainment. We hope to feature both individuals and groups of performers. We will review our experiences from this pilot year to help create the vision for the following nine years that benefits artists, audiences and the communities adjacent to our new Arena.
This program is sponsored by the Climate Pledge Arena and the National Hockey League, home of the Seattle Kraken. The funding is part of a package of community benefits obtained by community representatives, including the UACC and Seattle Center resident organizations, in the Climate Pledge Arena Development Agreement with the City of Seattle.
