HOURS: 8 hours per week, Sundays 10:00 am-6:00 pm
STATUS: Part-Time
BENEFITS: PTO accrual
SALARY: $16/hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Frye Art Museum is seeking a positive, flexible team player to join the Visitor Services Team. The Visitor Services Representative is responsible for greeting visitors, taking donations, selling memberships and ensuring that all visitors have a positive overall Museum experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Welcome all Museum visitors and provide information about exhibitions, membership, and programs, including answering visitors’ questions and addressing concerns.
Maintain the physical organization and cleanliness of the Visitor Services area and Rotunda and replenish promotional materials as needed.
Conduct and record informal surveys (and report to Communications Dept.) to find out where visitors are visiting from and how they heard about the Museum.
Notify visitors of Museum policies including what items should be kept out of the galleries (food and drink), photography policies for each exhibition, and offer to check bags and other prohibited items.
Issue bag-check claim tickets to guests, secure the corresponding tag to items, safely store items in the Frye cloakroom, and retrieve items in a timely manner.
Sell or renew memberships, process credit card donations, and register patrons for classes or lectures.
Daily counting and recording the funds from three onsite donation boxes.
Answer internal and external phone calls in a courteous and timely manner and perform a combination of clerical tasks to support administrative operations.
Count all visitors as they enter the Museum; record daily attendance.
Distribute tickets and/or standby numbers for Museum auditorium programs as needed.
Report front line experiences (positive or negative) and observations to appropriate departments.
Follow Museum protocol and standards and consult Security staff or other personnel when appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Must be willing to work the published hours.
Courteous and professional demeanor.
Ability to use a computer and learn the sales processes of the Altru database.
Willingness to learn about exhibitions for the purpose of relaying important information to visitors.
Good judgment, sincere enjoyment of people, enthusiasm for the Frye Art Museum and its work.
Ability to communicate verbally to provide information in person and over the telephone.
Ability to work effectively with little direct supervision, and the confidence to pose questions and share feedback.
Ability to lift bags over Visitor Services Desk and onto cloakroom shelves.
Cash and credit card handling expertise or willing to learn.
Strong communication verbal skills.
Solid organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work as a team player.
Must pass a criminal background check.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School degree or equivalent experience preferred.
A minimum of two years’ experience in a customer service setting.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work areas are inside, in a climate-controlled environment within an open area with background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor sites. Shift times may vary to meet the Museum’s requirement to staff the facilities at all hours.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
SITTING/STANDING/WALKING: Approximately 80% of time is spent seated while working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 20%) is spent standing or moving around the work area.
SPEAKING/HEARING: Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with the public, and co-workers.
LIFTING/CARRYING/PUSHING/PULLING: The ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds is necessary for moving material and equipment for events.
VISION: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use the computer screens.
STOOPING/KNEELING: The ability to stoop and kneel is necessary for accessing files.
REACHING/HANDLING: Good manual dexterity is necessary for computer keyboard use and for retrieving and working with appropriate paperwork, equipment, and supplies.
