Projektion Darmstadt call for artist entries is aimed exclusively at artists who work with the camera. Open to all artists everywhere born after January 1, 1981, applicants are invited to submit one video work of no more than 10 minutes in length. Multi-channel projections can only be considered if there is a screening version for one channel. A selection of up to 12 works will be presented during a two-week open-air screening in Darmstadt in the beginning of September 2021. From this selection, a jury will choose the winner. The winner of das projektion will receive 5000€. The winning work will also be shown alongside a selection of video works by members of the Darmstädter Sezession at screenings in San Antonio.

For its 2021 prize for young artists, the Darmstädter Sezession of Darmstadt, Germany is partnering with Blue Star Contemporary of San Antonio, Texas. The Darmstädter Sezession (das) is one of the oldest artist associations in Germany and the promotion of young artists is an integral part of the association’s activities. Every year, the artist association awards an outstanding young contemporary artist as part of an open competition. This year’s competition is presented in partnership with Blue Star Contemporary (BSC). BSC is the first and longest-running nonprofit space for contemporary art in San Antonio. The cities of San Antonio and Darmstadt have been sister cities since 2017. As an extension of the their Sister Cities International partnership, BSC and das are excited to collaborate on this competition which supports the work of international contemporary artists.
