Project:
The Yakima Rotary is creating a new Rotary Marketplace that will consist of two open-air buildings. As part of this project, we are looking for an artwork that will start under the roof of the first building, then extend over open drive-through down the top of the larger building. One aspect of this artwork is that it will incorporate light to illuminate the surrounding parking lot at night. For inspiration, see yakimalightproject.org.

The Rotary Marketplace consists of two sections:
a) A brick, stone, and tile-roofed Entrance Pavilion, designed by local award-winning architect Rod Knipper, who took elements from the adjacent Northern Pacific Depot and Freight House to create a compatible historic structure. Dimensions are 30’ wide pillar to pillar with a 10’ additional overhang on each side; 70’ long, and 24’ to roof peak.
b) A 272’ long open-air covered shed, also stretching north from Yakima Avenue. This section is 20’ wide with an additional 10’ overhang on each side; 15’ 5” to the roof peak.

Location: 15 West Yakima Avenue, on the location formerly occupied by Track 29, on property leased by the Downtown Association of Yakima, from property owner Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Construction Timeline: It is hoped work can begin on the Rotary Marketplace as soon as the weather permits in the Spring of 2022. The rear covered shed will be a pre-engineered structure. The front brick and stone pavilion will be custom-built.

Submission Requirements: Resume/CV and 5 examples of past work
