Arbutus Folk School is now accepting applications for the position of Arts Instructor. Artists of all disciplines are welcome to apply, but those working in our core subject areas are of greatest interest to our hiring team. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed in order of receipt.
At this time, we are prioritizing new hires for the following areas, and will begin review of applications on March 22nd, 2021:
Ceramics Instructor: We are seeking a ceramics instructor who can offer new classes that complement our current course offerings in the ceramics studio.
Ceramics Open Studio Facilitator and Studio Lead: The Ceramics Studio Lead keeps the studio organized and clean, and facilitates the flow of student work through the studio. This role also facilitates our three-hour Open Studio sessions in ceramics, held weekly on Monday evenings.
Youth Arts & Crafts Instructor: Youth arts instructors may teach in any discipline or across disciplines. In the past, Arbutus has offered youth pottery, felting, candle-making, and other crafts. When applying, please include a note on the age group(s) for whom you are able to offer instruction.
Cultural Arts Instructor: Artists whose art form is rooted in their cultural, occupational, or ethnic identity are especially encouraged to apply.
Woodworking Instructor: We are seeking a woodworking instructor who can offer new classes that complement our current course offerings in the woodshop.
Virtual Arts Instructor: If you would like to offer art or craft classes through Arbutus virtually, please inquire with us at info@arbutusfolkschool.org to discuss your program ideas. We are especially interested in offering virtual classes in mediums such as the performing or literary arts that require little to no specialized equipment.
If you are interested in applying, please carefully review our prospective instructor packet here. Then, view and complete our online application here.
Access to the arts and creative expression – as well as professional opportunities for artists – are often disproportionately available to privileged people groups, neglecting the full spectrum of cultural assets and needs in our communities. In our mission to enrich, empower, and connect through the arts, we especially encourage people of color, people who live in rural areas, people with disabilities, women, immigrants, people whose first language is not English, and LGBTQ people to consider applying to open positions at Arbutus Folk School.
