Seeks Assistant Professor of Graphic Design / Employment
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The Art Department is announcing a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor. The Art
Department is committed to excellent teaching, providing students with a rigorous intellectual environment, in a modern, fully-equipped art facility featuring dedicated studios, two galleries, and a MAC computer lab. Students gain knowledge and skills that support their creative process in the visual arts. The core art courses provide the foundation in artistic form and content, while upper-division offerings expand each student’s artistic vision and conceptual foundation for content in their work, and all courses encourage lifelong learning and a passion for making and understanding art. Graphic Design is currently a track within the Art Major.
STARTING DATE: FALL 2020
PRIMARY TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES:
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach 21 credit hours (approximately seven courses) per year, mainly within the Art Department, typically three in the fall semester, one during January Term, and three in the spring semester. Current course offerings include Graphic Design, Typography, Web Design, Photoshop/Adobe Suite, Digital Photography. Other courses may be developed based on disciplinary trends or areas of specialty. The position is open at the assistant level; however, in an exceptional circumstance a candidate could be hired at the associate level.
Along with teaching, the professor will be responsible for oversight of the graphic design curriculum, including
the Graphic Design track within the Art major and the Front-End Design Development interdisciplinary major,
support programs with a graphic design component, serve as mentor and advisor to students, and engage in research and/or creative work. Possibility of developing new courses that contribute to the university’s innovative, interdisciplinary Shared Curriculum. Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental activities and governance, professional and research activities, attending state, regional and
national professional association meetings; attending faculty assemblies, development days, and retreat, serving on committees, and advising.
REQUIRED JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Demonstrated excellence in creative work, with evidence of current scholarly activity and/or current practice in the field of graphic design
• Working knowledge of history and theory relating to design and visual communication
• Interest in global/intercultural design issues
• Must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States
• Evidence of effectiveness at college-level teaching (demonstrated effectiveness preferred)
• A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning
• Strong potential for an on-going stream of research in the candidate’s area of specialization
• Desire and commitment to increase the effectiveness in establishing relationships and positive
communications across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender,
physical limitations, or religious faith (evidence of experience preferred)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: M.F.A. in graphic design or closely related field. Other degrees will be considered with exceptional experience.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
