Worked in coalition with residents, businesses and community partners.
Secured, as part of the Capitol Hill Champion, a groundbreaking development agreement for equitable transit-oriented development at Capitol Hill’s light rail station, including 110 affordable homes.
Won, as part of the Community Package Coalition, $80 million in sustainable transportation, affordable housing, open space, and other community benefits from the Washington State Convention Center expansion.
Founded the Capitol Hill Renter Initiative, a unique renter organizing effort that advanced tenants’ rights, increased funds for affordable housing, and inspired the creation of the Seattle Renters Commission.
Installed the first community solar project on affordable housing in the United States.
Fostered policy changes in areas of zoning, building codes, parking management, and design guidelines.

The Capitol Hill EcoDistrict is based within Capitol Hill Housing, a community development corporation and public development authority with four decades of experience fighting for community health and affordability on Capitol Hill and throughout Seattle.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Community Development Associate will work independently and in relationship with other staff and partners to develop and lead new, innovative projects of the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict. The Community Development Associate must bring skills, experience, and passion that span many types of work including policy advocacy, community organizing, research, capacity building, service delivery, and community engagement. Upcoming projects include:
Management of a Capitol Hill Public Life Study applying the Gehl Institute’s public life data protocol.
Facilitating a community partnership that is planning Washington State’s first LGBTQ-affirming affordable housing for low income seniors.
A study of the housing, transportation and safety challenges experienced by service workers on Capitol Hill.
Coordination between Capitol Hill stakeholders and outreach workers serving people experiencing homelessness.
Planning for a school-based health center at Lowell Elementary.
Work with the Capitol Hill Arts District to create the Capitol Hill Arts Stabilization Fund.
The position also includes business development/fundraising, communications/engagement and other duties as assigned by the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict Executive Director.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Develop and lead implementation of projects of the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict in collaboration with other EcoDistrict staff, EcoDistrict Steering Committee members, and partners.
Develop and sustain strong collaborative relationships with private, nonprofit and public-sector entities to advance the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict.
Provide support to the EcoDistrict Steering Committee and ad hoc working groups.
Support the creation and implemention of multi-year work plans and meet quarterly goals.
Deeper integration of racial equity strategy into EcoDistrict workplanning and operations.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT/FUNDRAISING
Support development of new project ideas and help secure contracts for services that advance EcoDistrict goals and generate revenue.
Support grant writing and sponsorship efforts.

COMMUNICATION/ENGAGEMENT
Effectively articulate EcoDistrict goals, CHH’s role, and the opportunities and benefits of specific projects with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
Lead the creation of collateral and other materials to support specific EcoDistrict projects.
Organize events ranging from regular small community meetings to larger annual gatherings.

OTHER DUTIES
Support grant management and timely, professional communications with funders.
Support community development efforts in neighboring communities as directed.
Support community engagement and partnership development for Capitol Hill real estate projects as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and three or more years of experience in community development, economic development, urban planning, green building, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Exceptional verbal and written communications and relationship building skills; and Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, project management and organization skills.
Ability to work independently and a collaborative working style.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in urban planning or related field.
Broad knowledge and passion for urban and environmental issues.
Familiarity with/connection to Capitol Hill
