Guided by the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization, and working in partnership with the Board of Directors and Staff, the Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership for Kirkland Arts Center (KAC). The Executive Director has responsibility for management and oversight of all aspects of the organization, including but not limited to educational programming, fundraising, finances, operations, personnel management and human resources, facilities, and community relations.

The Executive Director’s scope of responsibilities includes:

Fundraising: Establishes and achieves development goals for donated alongside earned income, working with the Staff and Board. The Executive Director serves in the primary leadership role for fund development for the organization, overseeing grant acquisition, events, and individual giving including major gifts. She/he/they are also responsible for ensuring that earned revenue goals are met.
External Relations: The Executive Director represents the Arts Center to external constituencies, furthering the organization’s image and increasing its public reputation locally and regionally. The Executive Director will be a visible public spokesperson for Kirkland Arts Center and must identify and cultivate strategic partnerships that further the organization’s reputation while staying true to its mission.

Internal Management: The Executive Director is responsible for effective staff management, including establishing and revising positions to meet the changing needs of the Arts Center, hiring, firing, and setting staff policies and priorities. She/he/they will oversee staff in the successful design and implementation of necessary volunteer programs, be responsive to the needs of the Arts Center’s teachers and students either directly or through key staff as appropriate, and be mindful of the culture of welcome in the organization. The Executive Director is also responsible for maintenance and stewardship of the Arts Center’s historic home.
Fiscal Management: The Executive Director develops the annual budget for Board approval and manages the organization’s finances. In conjunction with our external bookkeeper, the Executive Director provides regular updates on the organization’s financial health, prepares quarterly financial reports, and facilitates the annual audit. She/he/they implement appropriate accounting policies, procedures, and controls and solicit advice in all aspects of financial management from the Board Finance Committee.
Programmatic Oversight: The Executive Director is responsible for successful programming through management of strong staff leadership, both in the Arts Center gallery and in its education program, and for ensuring that the programs further the Arts Center’s strategic vision.

Board Liaison: The Executive Director serves as the liaison between the Board and Staff in all Kirkland Arts Center related matters. The Executive Director works collaboratively with the Board of Directors and its committees: Executive, Finance, Equity Learning, Governance, Storytelling and Gala. She/he/they work to develop and implement the strategic direction of the organization and ensure that the Board of Directors has necessary information and reports on a timely basis to facilitate work of the Board. The Executive Director will participate in Board recruitment and retention and may serve in a consulting role to support Board growth and development.

Additional aspects of the position include maintaining knowledge and awareness of current professional developments relevant to KAC, an ability to handle confidentiality, flexibility in working individuals of all ages and backgrounds, an appreciation and respect for differences, and willingness and eagerness to take on other duties as needed.

Qualifications: Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, experience and expertise in public sector and/or nonprofit fields.
Minimum 3-5 years leadership experience in public sector and/or nonprofit fields. Nonprofit leadership experience highly preferred.

Reporting: The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is reviewed annually by the Executive Committee. Evaluation will include demonstrated performance in above scope of responsibilities; key knowledge, skills and abilities; identified leadership competencies; and progress on a co-developed annual work plan.

Salary and Benefits: $80,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience, with bonuses at the discretion of the Board. Strong benefits package with Medical, Dental, Vision and PTO, as well as one free art class per quarter. The Board reviews the salary annually and adjusts as the budget permits.
