Tacoma Public Utilities, Public Affairs & Communication division, is seeking an experienced Graphic Arts Specialist to support basic graphic design and administrative tasks related to production and design. In addition to supporting a team of communications professionals, work will include managing print jobs, working with the mailroom, trafficking design files, managing production timelines and calendars, and coordinating inbound production requests.

Responsibilities include:

  • Create designs and layouts for assigned graphic arts projects
  • Work within a variety of brand guidelines
  • Exchange native files and design assets with third-party design vendors
  • PowerPoint presentation formatting and design
  • Manage print job requests, quotes, timelines and proofs
  • Communicate with vendors and suppliers regarding special production requirements; place special orders for materials and supplies as needed
  • Work with mailroom on planning direct mailings, bill package needs, and flier distribution on campus
  • Work with facilities on installing signage and distributing stall posters
  • Proofread publications and other communications materials
  • Oversee general communications inboxes and share requests with the appropriate team members
  • Verify correctness of lobby materials and signage after posting
  • Work in digital asset management tool
  • Maintain Owned Channel Guidelines
  • Review deliveries in the vault or warehouse
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records related to the time and supplies used on each job and record job history details to facilitate exact reprints.
  • Processes work orders and billing information
  • Maintain form number master list and work with printer to develop forms
  • Review incoming assignments to assess scheduling needs; determine appropriate priorities and schedule accordingly; accommodate rush jobs as needed
  • Consult with account managers and internal clients to discuss job requirements, alternative approaches and time and cost constraints; explain and resolve problems and develop solutions on assigned projects
  • Communicate with other division staff and vendors to coordinate production efforts and provide specific instructions as needed; monitor job progress
  • Maintain calendar, timelines, and reminders for owned communications channels

Qualifications

An equivalent combination to: 
  • Graduation from high school
  • Two years of college-level training in fine arts, commercial art or related field and four years of experience in graphic arts design and production OR
  • Four-year college degree in the field of art/design and two years of experience in graphic arts design and production
