Seeks Remote Marketing Intern / Internships

Deadline
December 27, 2019

Organization Name: Threshold

Organization Location: Spokane, WA

Type: Internships

Fee: Free

Discipline:

At Threshold, interns aren’t paper pushers. You won’t schedule meetings, take coffee orders, or organize files. You’ll work on real projects– projects you’re excited about– projects that have a real impact on our company, our products, and our customers. And you’ll leave with real-world technical, creative, and business skills.

We’re looking for a few talented, dedicated, and kind people who see the value of what we’re doing at Threshold and who’ll use their passion, knowledge, and skills to help make Threshold a sustainable business– a business that believes people, planet, purpose and profit can all co-exist.

Sample marketing projects: These are only samples. We’d love to hear what you’d be interested in doing as well!

  • Create / implement a SEO, SEM strategy
  • Create / implement a social media strategy
  • Create / distribute content (copy, images, video) across channels
  • Create a messaging framework
  • Build customer profiles based
  • Create / implement email campaign strategy
  • Create internationalization/localization strategy

Project Development: We work in 6 week development cycles as laid out by the team at Basecamp (https://basecamp.com/shapeup). All interns will need to read through this brief manual in order to get acquainted with the methodology. In short, it consists of 1) figuring out what to work on for the 6 week cycle  2) assigning responsibilities 3) reducing risks and 4) shipping on time.  At the beginning of your internship, you’ll work with the founder to determine which projects you can successfully– and sanely– complete in a 6 week cycle and that best match your background and vocational interests.

Location: Our company is 100% remote so you can work from anywhere you want as long as you have a solid internet connection.

Communication: We’re not fans of organized meetings and other non-essential interruptions, in fact we avoid them as much as possible. For the most part, our communication occurs asynchronously. We use Slack and ClickUp as our primary modes of communication, which we’ll provide you access to. That being said, we will occasionally have an impromptu video chat on Slack or Google if a topic is too complex to type out.

Time Commitment: Our internships require a commitment of at least 10 hours a week for 6 weeks. How you choose to manage those hours is completely up to you.

Compensation: Unfortunately, because we’re a boot-strapped startup with a distaste for debt, our internships are currently unpaid.  That being said, if we can build Threshold into a sustainable business, interns from our program will be well-positioned for future opportunities in the company. At the very least, they will have left with real-world experience and projects they can point to on their resume.

About you:

You are independent and self-driven: Threshold is built around the concepts of trust, integrity, and responsibility. You’ll get plenty of support and guidance during your internship, but no one will be telling you how to spend each minute of your day so it’ll be up to you to make sure you’re making forward progress.

You are an excellent communicator: Because we’re 100% remote, clear and effective communication is essential to being successful at Threshold.

You have fresh ideas and you’re willing to share them: We’ll be the first to admit it: we don’t know it all. We’re always open to hearing fresh ideas and perspectives that we haven’t considered.

You’re eager to learn: You’ll dive right in to new technologies, new approaches, and new concepts and apply them to your work.

Specific Skills:

  • Social media marketing best practices (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Google+, YouTube)
  • Knowledge of Affinity Designer and Photo (or their Adobe counterparts) a plus

About Threshold: Threshold is a startup based in Spokane, WA. We’re a small team with bold dreams to be the global leader in home-based events and entertainment. At the core of our company is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that helps artists– musicians, authors, subject-matter experts, or anyone else with a fanbase– find their fans anywhere around the world, set up shows at their fans’ home or business, and–here’s the best part– make a sustainable living wage. Everything we do at Threshold is driven by our ‘humans-first’ philosophy.

This is why we chose to become a Public Benefit Corporation– to create a charter that holds us accountable, not solely for the creation of profit, but for the betterment of the people and communities we serve. We could create an innovative platform with awe-inspiring engineering and 10X revenue growth, but if it separates users from the better parts of their humanity it will have been an utter failure.

We believe:

  • Each one of us is a unique work of art billions of years in the making– you f_kn matter.
  • Art is fundamental for the cultivation of a healthy, diverse, and humane society.
  • Artists must be free to pursue their craft wherever it takes them– unfettered by dogma of any kind.
  • People and our Planet are just as important as Profit.
  • Main St. is just as important as Wall St.
  • Any technology that robs people of the better parts of their humanity is a failure.
  • Any technology that causes physical, emotional, or spiritual harm is a failure.
  • Growth is not always the best option.
  • Difference makes us better.
  • Competition makes us stronger.
  • Transparency makes us healthier.
  • Openness makes us wiser.

If you love the arts, other human beings, and the potential that technology offers to better the world, you’ll love working with us. Egotists, hermits, and the indifferent need not apply.

How to apply: We’ve deliberately kept the application simple so you can tell us about yourself the way you want to. We want to know why you want to be an intern at Basecamp, what you’re interested in working on, what work you’ve done in the past, and why you’d be a good fit for the program. Send us the URL to your portfolio, blog, GitHub site, etc. Add a resume if you want, but remember, we’re always impressed by a great cover letter.

You can fill out your application here. We’ll accept applications through Friday, December 27th. You’ll get an email to confirm your application shortly after you apply.

How to apply: Please fill out this short questionnaire: https://forms.gle/G7Wdv74kTnKdgzFSA We’ve deliberately kept it simple so you can tell us about yourself the way you’d like on the video portion.
