May 2, 2022
Organization Name: Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center
Organization Location: Cincinnati, OH
Type: Calls & Submissions
The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works of art that use fiber-based materials or processes. Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional visual arts 2d or 3d media that is in any way categorized as fiber-based, fabric, thread, sewn, stitched, etc.
A thread is a kind of line. A thread is a line with a function; a thread binds, wraps, it ties. When multiplied and twisted together it becomes an object with strength, one that can offer warmth like a blanket or catch the air like a sail. Thread can be turned into an object that is soft and comforting, and it can be woven or wrapped into one offering structure, protection, fire resistance even.
All manner of metals, plant matter, and plastics can be pulled or spun into string. Just like a mark, or a line, a thread is a unit of construction. What kinds of things can be made with thread?
Are there materials that can do the same job as a thread without being a thread?
THREAD is a call for tapestry, clothing, embroidery, quilts, sewing, weaving, stitching, pillows, bedding, stuffed animals, nets, ropes—for any work of art or design that connects, binds, winds, warms, strengthens, ensnares, and unites.
ANNUAL CASH AWARD: The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($5000) to a single work selected as the ‘best of the entire season’.
