This is a full-time adjunct faculty position for fall, winter and spring quarter in the 2023-24 academic year.

The Evergreen State College seeks a versatile faculty colleague to team teach undergraduate interdisciplinary 2D or 3D studio art programs with visual arts and literature faculty; applicants with a Latinx arts focus are particularly encouraged. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, and to contributing to an intensive curriculum that emphasizes the theory and practice of visual inquiry. Applicants should have expertise in either 2D or 3D techniques and design from traditional and contemporary contexts, including (but not limited to) 2D and 3D mixed media, socially-engaged art, sculpture or installation art. Preference will be given to candidates who engage themes relevant to Latinx communities in their art and/or who work with Latinx communities as part of their artistic practice. Themes may include (but are not limited to) borders, migration and immigration; Chicanx communities; intersectionality (race, class, gender, sexualities in Latinx communities); or community-based arts.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong commitment to teaching and supporting student development of diverse intellectual skills and multiple literacies, including critical reading and writing. The ability to write and speak about one’s work and the work of others is fundamental to the position, as well as a campus-wide learning objective for students. In keeping with Evergreen’s commitments, the candidate should be prepared to position visual arts in larger environmental, cultural, and community contexts, with preference to those who can teach about Latinx culture/arts in their social and historical contexts.
