The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) is accepting applications for its 2021 Wachtmeister Award to be given to an established visual artist who has not had a previous residency at VCCA.

The award includes a fully-funded residency of up to 30 days at VCCA’s Mt. San Angelo in Amherst, VA; an honorarium of $1,000; and reimbursed travel expenses of up to $750. A VCCA residency includes an individual studio, a private bedroom, and meals in a community of professional visual artists, writers, and composers in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

The recipient’s residency would take place between July 1, 2021, and January 31, 2023.

The 2021 award will be given to a visual artist working in any discipline or in a cross-disciplinary way. This year’s applicants must have worked professionally as a visual artist for the past 15 years with substantial national or international achievement in their field, including grants, awards, performances/installations, etc. Applicants must not have had a previous residency at VCCA. VCCA encourages artists of all backgrounds to apply. International artists are eligible to apply.
