The Ground Beneath Us Residency at Building Five is open to residents of Oregon, Washington and Idaho. This 6 week residency is an opportunity for an artist or artist team to create a large installation in Building Five. The purpose of the residency is to make a work that responds to the site architecturally, ecologically and/or historically.

Building Five is a raw 5,000 square-foot space located in the NW Industrial section of Portland. It is close to Forest Park, the Columbia Slough and NW Portland. Building 5 is an exhibition and community space with natural light and very high ceilings. We are committed to providing opportunities for a wide range of artists at various stages within their careers. Our goal is to support new work and stimulate intellectual exchange. We offer exhibition and presentation opportunities and provide artists with exposure. We encourage experimentation and work that reflects the social and cultural contexts of our times.

The residency is from October 7 to November 11, 2024. The chosen artist/artist team will receive full access to Building 5 for six weeks, and a stipend of $1000.

Responsibilities of the residency will be to give one public talk during the residency, and have at least two open hours for the public. Housing is not provided with this residency.
