February 20, 2019 – Artist Trust is thrilled to announce three new opportunities for Washington State artists! The SOLA Awards, the Vadon Foundation Fellowship Award for Native Artists, and the Yayasan Bali Purnati Residency.

In 2019 the SOLA (Support Old Lady Artists) Awards, unrestricted awards of $3,000, will annually recognize three Washington State female-identified visual artists, age 60 or over, who have dedicated 25 years or more to creating art. Established in 2016 by artist Ginny Ruffner, the SOLA Awards encourage and celebrate female-identified artists for their lifetime contribution to the arts. The awardees will be selected in conjunction with the Yvonne Twining Humber Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, previous recipients of the awards are Gloria Bornstein (2017), Norie Sato, Tip Toland, and Gail Grinnell (2018).

“I founded SOLA, a nonprofit with a flippant name but a solid acronym, because I am serious about my commitment to give back to my community in a way that will encourage older, less-well-known artists through professional recognition, acknowledgement, and a cash award.” –Ginny Ruffner

Additionally, Artist Trust Fellowships in response to artist feedback, have increased funding from $7,500, and will now provide 8+ merit-based awards of $10,000 to practicing professional artists of exceptional talent and ability, along with two new opportunities for artists: The Vadon Foundation Fellowship Award for Native Artists, and the Yayasan Bali Purnati Residency.

Through the Vadon Foundation Fellowship Award for Native Artists, supported by the Vadon Foundation, this grant will recognize a Native Artist of any discipline through an unrestricted award of $10,000. Learn more about the Vadon Foundation: http://vadonfoundation.org/.

The residency will be awarded by the selection panel as part of the Fellowship Award process. The awardee will receive both a Fellowship and the residency.
