About

Derek Bourcier is a Seattle-based artist that works primarily in sculpture and video. Bourcier studied at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA and Portland State University in Portland, OR. Bourcier was a member of the Seattle art/rap group Linda and Ron’s Dad and painted murals with teenagers involved in the juvenile court system through Urban ArtWorks, a non-profit organization in Seattle. Bourcier has exhibited in the Portland Building’s Installation Space in July of 2011 and was recipient of the 2011 Outstanding Student Achievement In Contemporary Sculpture Award.

Derek received 2019 GAP Award funding for Tortuous Vessels, a new series of sculpture dealing with ideas of impermanence and decay while serving as a meditation on Derek’s recent partial vision loss. This funding will help to offset studio rental and material costs necessary for the creation of these works.
