About

Eirik Johnson received his BFA and BA from the University of Washington in 1997 and his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2003. Eirik has exhibited at institutions including the Seattle Art Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago. His monographs include “Borderlands” and “Sawdust Mountain”, which culminated in solo exhibitions at the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle; the Aperture Foundation, New York; and Vassar College, New York. His work is in the permanent collections of institutions including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the International Center of Photography, New York, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas. Awards include an Art Matters Grant to Japan in 2014, the 2012 Neddy Prize, the Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship in 2009, the Santa Fe Prize 2005, and the William J. Fulbright Grant to Peru in 2000. Eirik is represented by the G. Gibson Gallery in Seattle. He is a member of the photographic cooperative Piece of Cake North America and serves as Programs Chair at the Photographic Center Northwest. He lives with his wife and two sons in Seattle.
