About

Jac Trautman is a photographer and artist in the Pacific Northwest. He grew up in the Seattle area. He is a member of the Duwamish Tribe. He does his best to honor his indigenous ancestors, but grew up in the culture of the colonizers, who did their best to assimilate him.

He is interested in how people project their idea of landscape onto the world. He does not use traditional Duwamish mediums of cultural expression, forgetting old ways, yet his use of contemporary technical supports in his art and photography practice ensures Duwamish culture is not forgotten.

He participated in the 2020-2021 Seattle Office of Arts and Culture Public Art Boot Camp program, and currently has a temporary public art installation on display at the Seattle Center. He has also shown recently at the Whatcom Museum and was recently awarded the Nia Tero PNW Arts Fellowship.
