About
Jeanine Walker is a poet who grew up in central Pennsylvania, and lived in Ohio, Virginia, Jeonju (South Korea), and Houston before relocating to Seattle in 2009. She holds a Ph.D in creative writing and literature from the University of Houston, where she graduated with a focus in poetry and writing pedagogy. Jeanine now works as a teaching artist through Seattle Arts & Lectures’ Writers in the Schools program and joyfully instructs elementary school students in the art of poetry. She is also a writing coach for adults, a teacher through Hugo House, and works as the co-producer and host of Mixed Bag, a literary-based comedy and music show. Jeanine was a 2015 Jack Straw Writers Fellow, the April 2018 Seattle Review of Books poet-in-residence, and her poems have been published in Cimarron Review, Cream City Review, Hobart, Narrative, Pleiades, and elsewhere.
Jeanine received 2018 GAP Award funding to support the publication of her poetry. So far in 2018, she has sent 89 submissions of 4-6 poems each and had 15 poems accepted. Jeanine’s finished manuscript has 34 currently-unpublished poems; the GAP Award will help offset the cost of submitting for publication.
