Kate Vrijmoet

Kate Vrijmoet whose work focuses on the human body and the human condition, and on issues of consciousness, boundaries, and access. Vrijmoet was one of 16 American artists participating in the 2012 5th Beijing International Biennial. Her sound installation, Mother May I…? was awarded Best Installation by Charlotta Kotik, Curator Emerita Brooklyn Museum of Art in the Brooklyn Wide Open exhibit. It was exhibited at Orange County Center on Contemporary Art–a show endorsed by Nicolas Bourriaud. Vrijmoet has exhibited in shows juried by curators of the Met (Anne Strauss) and the Guggenheim (Nat Trotman). She received 3rd Prize in the 2010 Ecuador Biennial. She is currently curating on an art and social change exhibit to destigmatize mental illness.

Kate received a 2014 GAP for press kits, including research catalog and expenses for an exhibit (which will include collaboration with artists June Sekiguchi, Holly Ballard Martz, Valaree Cox, and Ezra Dickinson), to end the stigma of mental illness. She intends on shedding light on the effect mental illness has on individuals, loved ones, and ultimately our society and to de-stigmatize what is felt from our culture.
