About
Katie Miller was born and raised in the backwoods of Northeastern Minnesota, but is now deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest. As an interdisciplinary artist, she creates immersive installations often with a participatory element. Katie received a BFA in sculpture from the University of Washington in Seattle and a MFA in glass and from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia. She has been an artist in residency at the Montello Foundation in Nevada, Art Farm in Nebraska, as well as an ArtBridge Fellow at Pratt Fine Arts Center and an Artist Trust EDGE graduate. Recently, she was awarded an artist residency at Bullseye Glass Factory in Portland, Oregon and Sculpture Space in New York State. She has exhibited her work nationally with recent solo exhibitions at Gallery 4Culture and METHOD Gallery in Seattle.
Katie received 2017 GAP Award funding to support a month-long residency at Bullseye Glass in Portland. During this residency Katie will reincorporate glass into her work, take bigger risks with an expensive material and process, as well as offer inspirational space to deepen her artistic practice. GAP funding will also be used to purchase glass and additional materials such as plaster and silica to make molds.
Artist Trust thanks SADA for underwriting this award through Artist Trust’s Corporate Partnership program. For information about supporting Washington State artists, visit here.
