Kevin Haas

Kevin Haas is oiginally from St Louis, Missouri, and was inspired by the abandoned industrial building that can be found there and in other Midwestern cities. He earned his BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a MFA from Indiana University where he studied printmaking and digital media. Although he now lives in rural Eastern Washington, where he is a professor at Washington State University and coordinator of the printmaking area, he still seeks out places where human activity has transformed the environment around him.

Since 1995 his work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across the U.S. and in Canada. He has been included in exhibits at the Schneider Museum of Art, the Des Lee Gallery in St Louis, the Jundt Museum in Spokane, Davidson Gallery in Seattle, and at Kesting/Ray gallery in New York. In 2012 he was an artist in residence at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium, and a visiting artist at Syracuse University.

Kevin received 2012 GAP Award funding to cover travel expenses, studio fees, and material needed to complete a printmaking residency at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium. Kevin’s work depicts the ubiquitous places found near the highways and interstates that surround and interconnect our cities. They represent excess and wastefulness, the difficulty of implementing different paradigms for living, and the blinding presence of corporate capitalism. During his residency, he will be working with the numerous drawings that were created the video that shot while driving around the highways and sprawl of various U.S. cities.

Kevin also received a 2002 GAP Award.
