About

Marilyn Montufar received her B.F.A in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her photography is inspired by the diverse life-styles that surface in major metropolitan areas and often is an extended study of her subjects throughout several years. Marilyn is interested in documenting the transitions inherent in gentrification and human relationships through a practice of portraiture and an exploration of the evolving urban and natural landscape.

Marilyn received 2015 GAP funding to purchase camera equipment and film for the Washington and Southwest states portion of her project: “Capturing Community: Portraits of Women and Their Environments in Contemporary America.” Through this photography project Marilyn will explore the female role and perspective in underrepresented communities in the United States. The project will begin in King County, continue south toward the Mexican border and expand across the country. ending in New York. Funding will also cover the cost of film and post production, digitizing, and archiving.
