About

Mark L. Keats was born in Korea, adopted at three, and grew up in Maryland. He was educated at Howard Community College, the University of Maryland, College Park, and Texas Tech University. He has received fellowships from Kundiman and The Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing. He was also a finalist for the David TK Wong Fellowship and his novel, Loud and Mute Birds, was a finalist for the Dzanc Books Prize in Fiction as well as a long list finalist for the First Pages Prize. His fiction has recently been published in Epiphany’s Empire Issue, Puerto del Sol, and storySouth. His work is often informed by his transracial adoption, Korean history, and other lesser known historical events. He currently resides in Vancouver, WA, and teaches at Clark College.
