Mark Rozema

Mark Rozema is a writer of non-fiction and a photographer. His memoir Road Trip was published by Red Hen Press in 2015, and was awarded the 2016 Washington State Book Award. His writing has appeared in many journals, including Isthmus, Flyway, Superstition Review, and Shark Reef. By weaving together personal narrative, history, botany, and geology, Mark seeks to understand and celebrate the connections between human beings, other living creatures, and the land that sustains us. Currently, Mark is an academic tutor at Edmonds Community College, where he assists International students. He also has been a recreation therapist and group home manager for people with physical and developmental challenges. Before that, he worked in the woods and on the water, as a fisherman and firefighter. His passions include rock-climbing, gardening, and competitive sprinting. His partners in life include his wonderful wife, two splendid daughters, and two lovable dogs.

Mark received GAP Award funding to pursue completion of a book that explores the concept of watersheds. The book, tentatively titled Going to the Source, will employ both prose and photography to explore six unique river basins in Washington’s Cascades, the Arizona desert, and the highlands of Iceland.
