About
Monica Mota was born in El Paso, TX. She began dancing at the age of 2. When she was growing up, Monica was fortunate to have teachers allow her to take class at free or reduced rates in exchange for teaching or helping in the studio. That is something Monica now carries forward for students who would otherwise face barriers to access dance classes. Accessibility of training and performing for all interested dancers, regardless of financial status, is at the core of why Monica continues to teach and produce shows.
Monica is the founder and director of Quiero Flamenco, a dance company based in Spokane, WA. In January 2025, Monica presented Gradience with KSPS-PBS, winning 4 national Gold Telly awards.
Monica is also a co-founder of Kindling Productions, a dance production company focusing on producing the works of Northwest choreographers.
Monica started dancing professionally as a ballet dancer with the New Mexico Ballet Company and as a modern dancer for Bill Evans while at the University of New Mexico. At nineteen, she turned her focus to Flamenco. She has performed Flamenco throughout the West Coast and in Spain.
Monica has trained under Sara de Luis of Pacific Northwest Ballet, taught at the PNB summer academy, and coached Seattle Opera dancers. She studies annually in Spain and at the National Institute of Flamenco.
Monica obtained her B.A. in Dance from the University of New Mexico and a Masters in Teaching from Whitworth University.
