Nancy Deal

Nancy Deal received a 2003 GAP to purchase equipment for the creation of multi-functional jewelry, including a rolling mill, hydraulic press and such materials as gold, nickel, neoprene, mylar, and polyester resin. After Deal’s principal gallery closed recently, she felt compelled to “experiment with a new body of work that makes a statement about the modern world.” Constructing wearable jewelry that serves more than one purpose, Deal comments on the idea of survival in uncertain times. “A pendant that conceals objects necessary to one’s survival would be a provocative commentary on our modern lives. Similarly, a compartmentalized bracelet that straps on your wrist carrying emergency pills or packets.”
