About

As a Michigan-born Indian, Savita witnessed a breathtaking Kuchipudi drama at age five, igniting her devotion to Kuchipudi. After 20 years of learning the Indian classical dance form of Kuchipudi from world-renowned icons, she trains daily to master its challenging vigor, intricacy, grace and profound acting. While completing her Ph.D., Savita brought the first Kuchipudi dance-theater production, first intercollegiate competitive Bollywood dance team, and first university Garba/Raas organization to Vancouver, BC. In 2018, she moved to Seattle, WA solely for its attractive art scene that would drive her artistic mission and received the $8000 CityArtist Seattle award. Here, Savita produced Malavika, a large-scale Kuchipudi dance-theater production with a 30-person cast (2019) and Bhasmasura, a free-access children’s short-story dance-drama film (2020). She created Bollywood custom dance-theater productions for weddings in India (2018) and Dubai (2020). Throughout the US, India, and Canada, Savita choreographed, performed and/or competed in Bollywood dancing, Kuchipudi and Garba/Raas.
