Tanessa is a writer, born in Tacoma, currently living in Shelton, WA with her husband and two sons. Her work has been published in the Seattle Times, News Tribune, numerous zines and lit magazines, and the anthology Bare Your Soul: The Thinking Girl’s Guide to Enlightenment (Seal Press). As a college journalism student, she received awards from the California Intercollegiate Press Association and Columbia Scholastic Press Association. In more recent years, she was awarded a scholarship from The Sun magazine to attend its writing retreat at Wildacres in North Carolina, completed a zine on cancer and community at a Sou’wester Artist Residency and attended a residency at Rockland Woods in October 2023. She works full-time as a grant writer for a tribal consortium, serves on the board of Puget Sound Grantwriters Association and is an advocate for women’s health.
