Tim Cross

Tim Cross is an artist working in drawing, painting, and sculpture. He received a BA from The Evergreen State College in 1995, and an MFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 2003. Since then, he has been actively making and showing both locally and nationally. Currently he is represented by Bridge Productions in Seattle, Washington. He thrives on creative invention and developing visual languages. Tim’s work was chosen to be in the King County Public Art Collection for their portable arts collection.

Tim received 2007 GAP Award funding for materials and time to develop a new series of drawings and paintings on paper and canvas. Using an assortment of paints, colored liquids, liquid paper, and matches, he will create work that combines drawn natural and organic forms with traced and transferred parts of machines and assorted architectural images. His work combines his interests in architecture and construction with his passion for nature and the processes of growth and decay. His abstract work echoes the natural world and its inhabitants.

Tim’s artwork has taken many different directions over the years. He thrives on creative invention and developing visual languages. His recent work centers around drawing and collage, incorporating an acrylic transfer process using silk as a substrate. Using Xeroxed images from many sources, he builds compositions and transfers them using acrylic medium. The end result is a unified painting-like surface that is lush and textured. It is a unique process that has opened up many new creative picture-making possibilities.
