About

Yaminee (Yam) Patel is a Seattle-based mixed media artist whose work explores themes of cultural identity, community, and the intersection of art and everyday life. Inspired by her Indian heritage, Patel utilizes natural materials like rice, lentils, and chickpeas to create intricate, textured pieces that evoke comfort, warmth, and nostalgia.

Since her debut in 2023, Patel has exhibited her work in over a dozen local galleries, in 20+ shows, and in multiple small businesses. Her artistic journey has been marked by personal accomplishments, such as co-curating Mundane Dystopia at Slide Gallery, participating in the 2025 Shunpike Artist Residency program, displaying her work in the Shunpike Storefronts program, receiving a 4Culture arts grant, and being able to share her work on King5’s New Days NW.

Beyond her personal practice, Patel is deeply committed to fostering a vibrant community through art. In 2025, she created work for Walk for Rice with the Asian Counseling and Referral Services (ACRS) to raise funds for local food banks. She also worked with Refuge Outdoors and Y-WE on a Public Lands UnEarthed visual story telling program, supporting 4 youths in making artwork representing their personal interview with community members focused on BIPOC experiences in the outdoors. Through her work, Patel aims to bridge cultural divides and create spaces for meaningful connection.
