A list of resources for community and artists in light of the current wildfires devastating communities in eastern Washington and across the state. For additional resources, visit our general Emergency Assistance and Resources page.
Emergency Funds for Artists
Artists Fellowship, Inc
Practicing visual fine artists and their families are eligible for one-time assistance due to sickness, natural disaster, bereavement, or unexpected extreme hardship.
Entertainment Community Fund
Provides Emergency Financial Assistance to eligible performing arts and entertainment professionals via several different specific funds.
Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants
This program provides one-time grants of up to $5,000 for recent unexpected medical, dental, and mental health emergencies to artists in financial need* who are creating in the visual arts, film/video/electronic/digital arts, and choreography. Only generative artists are eligible — artists creating their own, independent work, with recent and ongoing opportunities for the public to experience that work. The next application cycle will open on August 18, 2026.
The Rauschenberg Dancer Emergency Grants
This program provides one-time grants of up to $3,000 to professional dancers facing dire financial emergencies, due to the loss or lack of recent/current live performance work, because of circumstances outside of their control. The next application cycle will open on September 8, 2026.
The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant
This program is intended to provide interim financial assistance to qualified painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen, catastrophic incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation. Each grant is given as one-time assistance for a specific emergency, examples of which are fire, flood, or emergency medical need.

As of Monday, 8/3/26, open shelters in eastern Washington are:
- Spokane Convention Center (Spokane County), 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. Free parking, pets are welcome.
- Jenkins Jr/Sr High (ChewelahSD) (Stevens County), 702 E Lincoln Ave, Chewelah, WA 99109
- Kettle Falls Middle (KettleFallsSD) (Stevens County), 105 W 11th Ave, Kettle Falls, WA 99141
Spokane County Fairgrounds
Enter through red gate off Broadway. Animal shelter and RV grounds are open for those with evacuated animals. (404 N. Havana St.)
Temporary housing and rental assistance
- For those displaced by the fires, you can find community resources to help with temporary housing and rental assistance.
- Find temporary rentals or short-term leases with HousingSearchNW. If you are a property owner or landlord, please consider listing your rental property for free on this site.
Pet Shelters
Food Assistance
- WA State DSHS has several programs that offer emergency food assistance if eligible: Emergency Resources | DSHS
- Washington Basic Food Program: Expedited Service for Basic Food | DSHS. If eligible, can receive assistance within 7 days. Basic Food can also replace up to 1 month of food benefits in the case of a disaster such as a flood: must report the disaster within 10 days of occurrence.
- WA 211 Washington Food Bank Map: Find free food support in your neighborhood. Food banks are operating in your community and are open to all. They provide produce, pantry staples, and other groceries. Some food banks also provide other household goods, like diapers and pet food.

- Spokane Complex Fire Community Resource Hub: A central resource from Greater Spokane Inc connecting residents, businesses, nonprofits and community partners with verified information and recovery resources.
- Washington Wildfire Resources: A general list of resources for wildfire support compiled by the Governor’s Office.
- WA State Department of Health: Guidance from the Washington State Department of Health on how to prepare for, stay safe during, and recover after a wildfire. Includes information on wildfire smoke, health impacts, and post-fire cleanup.
- Washington Smoke Blog: A partnership between state, county, and federal agencies, and Tribes. We coordinate to collectively share information for Washington communities affected by wildfire smoke.
- Plato’s Closet: If you were directly affected by the fires and need clothing, Plato’s Closet is offering clothing in sizes 00 to 4XL plus men’s clothing. (13004 E. Sprague Ave., Spokane Valley)
How to Help
- The City of Spokane H.O.M.E. Starts Here Fund is accepting donations to support individuals and families affected by the ongoing wildfires. Every dollar donated will go directly toward meeting the needs and supporting recovery efforts for those impacted.
- American Red Cross Washington Wildfire Relief: Support the American Red Cross’s efforts to provide emergency shelter, supplies, and assistance to individuals and families impacted by Washington wildfires.
- Innovia Foundation’s Spokane Complex Wildfire Response Fund: Support local wildfire response and long-term recovery efforts for nonprofit organizations affected by the Spokane Complex wildfires through Innovia Foundation.
- Terrain Spokane: Terrain Spokane champions artists and creative communities across the Inland Northwest. Help support their work by making a donation.
